Flatwork Makes the Difference

So this morning we schooled Jimmy and with the X he was alright. He questioned it, but didn't get too nervous... but the vertical he was just weird at... really panicky. So we took a step backward and did "squares", first at the trot, then the canter...and MAN did it make all the difference in the world!

"Squares" are when we have the horse track straight with a shoulder fore, and pivot 90ยบ at a corner, instead of continuous bend through a circle. This got Jimmy OFF his left side and a lot more balanced and straight through the turns!!! He was so soft, he cantered a long approach straight to a small vertical and then cantered up and over the outside line, no problem... THEN we did the 1-to-the-3 diagonal line and he was a total freakin' rockstar. I am so pumped he and I figured it out. Thank God for Betty!! She's giving us the confidence we have been seeking.

XoXo.
