My thoughts on drama

I just posted this to a friend on Illinois Horse and I just feel like it's something to share with everyone out there. This friend of mine has been going through some rough "horse-people-drama" and as a result, is questioning herself as a trainer. She asked for opinions, and this was my reply:

I know you on a personal level. Have seen your students, and ridden your horses. I think you absolutely are everything you claim to be. You are slow and steady, and move at a safe and comfortable pace for everyone. Many people find this as a deterrent and could use it against you, however those are the people who are found lying in the trenches they've dug for themselves.

It's an enormous slap in the face when people question your ability, or worse, spread rumors and lies about your skills and techniques. I have been through more than my fair share of 'horse drama' because the people in this industry are nothing short of viscous, and I learned an absolutely invaluable lesson: when the good guys are on your side, you've got nothing to worry about. I've had the honor, like you, to train with some truly incredible talents; people who have changed the hunter/jumper industry forever, and they are all still on my side. I didn't burn those bridges, so when the back-stabbing, heart-wrenching thieves in this world come to my side and try to take my pride, I have one word to say, Karma. They will get theirs. When you stick to your guns and believe in yourself, and do everything right that you've always done, you've got absolutely nothing to worry about. They. will. get. theirs.
