Tonight Lucy had an awesome lesson on Smiley. He is so flipping good. She got bobbled once and lost her stirrups and he just stopped and stood there until she was settled, then resumed plodding around at the trot. Can't find a horse like that everyday and wouldn't tell the owner to sell him for a million dollars! He's a keeper, hands down. By the end of the lesson she was posting, sitting, and catching her diagonals at a trot like it was nothin'. So proud. I love teaching.
Jim thought it'd be awesome to bolt every time Lucy or I got near him in the field tonight, so when I eventually caught him, I made him go straight to work in the round pen (checking his feet first just for good measure). He came out 100%!!!!!! No stiffness, no soreness, just solid, awesome, sexy trotting right off the bat. And of course I was going to make him work like a dog for running away before, and he listened to my every command the second he got on that rope.
I even hopped on him while he cooled out and moseyed around the round pen for a little bit. I'm so thrilled that he's feeling all the way better :-) A few more days of consistent soundness and I'll tack him up for real :-)
All things are so, so good!!!! Hope everyone is keeping cool and doing well. Tonight on my way home I could smell myself. It was not good, but at least it means I had a successful night of working hard! Murmurs of more students are rumbling around too....so keep your eyes & ears peeled, another one might have just joined the team ;-)
