Today I had wonderful rides on both Jimmy and Pepe. Jimmy was energetic, but not sassy. We are up to trotting 5 tines around each direction and after that many times around today he was still happy and perky so I stood up in my irons and clucked to let him canter down one long side each direction. He picked up the correct lead both times right off and cantered with his full body and a beautiful stride. Also, while working on our walk during warm up and in our breaks we practiced lateral movements both directions and I couldn't be more proud with the strides he is making. He is so wonderful.
Pepe was perfect and I just enjoy riding him so much. Every time I ride him he seems to understand more and more what his job is and he really seems to enjoy it! He hacks with his ears up the whole time and especially when we work on ground poles he gets such a cute expression. He also has started a new habit. When he is on cross ties and I walk down the aisle to go to my tack trunk with my back turned to him, he whinnies until I turn to look at him. When I do, he just stands there with bright eyes and ears forward looking at me like "HEY!!!!!!". It's actually like hes smiling at me :-) I think he thinks I am his mom, which is adorable and heart breaking all at once. I cannot wait for the perfect person to fall in love with him. He can make some teenagers dream come true. For the economic-minded teenage equestrian, he is Prince Charming. He needs a Mom.
Also, I measured both guys today! They both measure much bigger than I thought they would. Jimmy came in at 15.2 and Pepe was 16!!! Very pleased with those guys today!!! What a great day.
